5 Beaches Near Downtown Bonita Springs, Ranked by Proximity

From Bonita Beach to Lovers Key — the five Gulf beaches closest to downtown, and what each one is best for.

By The Downtown Living Editors

One of the quiet advantages of living in downtown Bonita Springs is how many genuinely great beaches sit within a short drive. Here are the five closest, roughly in order of how fast you can get sand between your toes.

  • Bonita Beach Park (~10–15 min) — the closest and most classic: easy access, restrooms, and a wide stretch of Gulf sand. The default choice for a quick afternoon.
  • Barefoot Beach Preserve (~12–20 min) — the locals’ favorite. Quieter, more natural, with a preserve at the south end worth the walk. Go early on weekends.
  • Lovers Key State Park (~12–20 min) — a state park made for shelling, kayaking, and wildlife, with a wilder, unspoiled feel.
  • Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park (~15–25 min) — just into Naples and consistently ranked among the area’s most pristine beaches. Arrive early; it fills up.
  • Vanderbilt Beach (~18–30 min) — farther south in Naples, with restaurants nearby if you want sand plus a proper lunch.

The ranges matter here: the lower number is an easy off-season run, while the higher one reflects in-season winter traffic, when the snowbirds are back and the bridges slow down. Either way, from downtown the Gulf is rarely more than about half an hour away.
